Dublin city centre comes to a standstill as sit-down protest staged on O'Connell Bridge in support of Palestine
Briefly

Protesters in Dublin gathered outside government buildings and marched to O'Connell Bridge, calling for an end to violence in Gaza. The demonstration, part of a larger global movement, saw public transport disruptions as hundreds waved Palestinian flags and chanted for a ceasefire. Groups like Mothers Against Genocide shared footage of the protests, emphasizing the urgent call for peace. As demonstrations unfolded, Israeli forces resumed military operations in Gaza, resulting in significant casualties and marking a grim escalation of conflict since a prior ceasefire.
The Dublin protest follows similar events across capital cities calling for peace in Palestine, including thousands in New York and in Paris yesterday.
Protesters shouted, 'Stop the bombing now. We are the people, we won't be silenced,' as Palestinian flags and signs were waved in the air.
The Israeli military said its forces resumed ground operations in the central and southern Gaza Strip, as a second day of airstrikes killed at least 48 Palestinians.
Demonstrators gathered to protest on Kildare Street, before migrating to the O'Connell Bridge junction around 7pm, a main thoroughfare for cars, the Luas and buses.
