The Harold Hill Post Office in Farnham Road is now set to be franchised instead of facing closure, according to Post Office officials. This change, which affects 108 branches undergoing a major restructuring, allows either a retail partner or a postmaster to manage the branch. Post Office chair Nigel Railton emphasized the importance of this franchise model for establishing a sustainable future. While details of the retail partner are yet to be announced, the completion of this transition is expected by autumn, pending government funding, following a consultation with unions, staff, and local stakeholders.
A spokesperson for the Post Office said it hopes to complete the franchising by autumn, but that the move is "subject to government funding".
Nigel Railton, Post Office chair, said: "Moving to a fully franchised network is one part of enabling the Post Office to deliver a New Deal for Postmasters..."
