Cheltenham Day Three - as it happened: Henry De Bromhead gets first winner of week as Heart Wood wins Ryanair Chase
"De Bromhead and jockey Darragh O'Keeffe landed the big race, the Ryanair Chase, with Heart Wood (9/2), beating Jonbon (2nd) and Banbridge (3rd)"
"O'Brien and JJ Slevin stunned Cheltenham in the day's other big race as Home By The Lee once more showed his resilience to out-stay the rest in the Stayers' Hurdle. The 33/1 shot hit the front a long way out and would not relent, holding off all comers including Willie Mullins' Ballyburn who finished second."
"It was a disappointing day for Mullins who couldn't add to his tally of five winners for the week. He was 'annoyed' at the ground which caused him to withdraw Fact To File from the Ryanair Chase."
Day three at Cheltenham saw three prominent Irish trainers achieve breakthrough victories. Henry De Bromhead and jockey Darragh O'Keeffe won the Ryanair Chase with Heart Wood at 9/2, defeating Jonbon and Banbridge. Joseph O'Brien and JJ Slevin produced a stunning upset in the Stayers' Hurdle with Home By The Lee, a 33/1 shot that led from far out and held off Willie Mullins' Ballyburn. Gordon Elliott and Jack Kennedy ended their difficult week with Wodhooh, the 5/6 favourite, winning the Grade One Mares' Hurdle. Willie Mullins had a disappointing day, withdrawing Fact To File from the Ryanair Chase due to ground conditions and failing to add to his five winners.
