Cadets celebrate VE Day aboard HMS Belfast
Briefly

The City of London Sea Cadets, the UK's largest maritime youth charity, meet on HMS Belfast to engage in various training and activities. This year marks the 80th anniversary of VE Day, making their presence particularly significant. Cadets like Emily share insights on the ship's historical importance during WWII, noting its involvement in major battles. While some cadets try other programs, many find their niche in the Royal Marine Cadets, emphasizing the camaraderie and unique experiences that come with being a part of this maritime heritage.
The allied forces had been going through such stress for six years, imagine your kids were off in the war, you don't know if they are dead or alive, if they were coming home. It was just such a huge moment.
There's so much history to this ship and it's really cool for us to be here.
It's something to brag about with other units. If any of them start an argument with us we just say 'we're on a boat, you're not'.
I found the Royal Marine Cadets and I thought it was just better.
