Arts Council England a victim of London-centric' media coverage, CEO says
Briefly

Darren Henley, CEO of Arts Council England, defended the organization against criticism of its London-centric focus. In his 10th anniversary remarks, he emphasized the disparity in media coverage, where London-based arts figures dominate headlines while regional leaders struggle for visibility. This imbalance impacts perceptions of ACE's mission to distribute arts funding throughout England. After criticism from London venues like Wigmore Hall, Henley acknowledged challenges but noted positive engagements with many strong supporters across the country who feel underrepresented in the arts dialogue.
I observe the London-centricity in our media... regional arts leaders... don't get the half-page columns in our national newspapers as easily as the people who are London based.
I absolutely respect people who have a view that says we're doing something that isn't for their liking... but there are lots of people who I meet who say something different.
