More than 30 individuals fell seriously ill after consuming what they thought was heroin in Camden. Emergency services responded, with one case requiring first aid for a man in cardiac arrest. Though none of the hospitalizations were life-threatening, investigations are ongoing. Authorities confirmed that the substance was a dangerous synthetic opioid. Detective Chief Inspector Chris Soole warned against illegal drug use, stating that risks are significant due to the unregulated nature of the trade. Camden Council also expressed concern and is focusing on outreach initiatives for residents in need of support.
DCI Chris Soole urged, "As I said on day one, my advice remains that people should not buy, sell or consume illegal drugs...there are always very serious risks."
Cllr Anna Wright noted, "Contaminated heroin continues to be an issue of national concern. In Camden, we are continuing to invest in our drug and alcohol services."
