Zak Starkey, who was recently removed from The Who, expressed his surprise and sadness in a heartfelt statement. With nearly thirty years of drumming experience and a connection to Keith Moon, Starkey considered the band family. Following a medical emergency, he was confused by criticisms of his performance. Starkey plans to take time off with his family, work on a new album with Mantra Of The Cosmos, and progress on his autobiography. He wishes The Who the best despite a somewhat acrimonious departure, indicated by concerns raised by Roger Daltrey about his drumming.
I'm very proud of my near thirty years with The Who. Filling the shoes of my Godfather, 'uncle Keith' has been the biggest honor and I remain their biggest fan.
After playing those songs with the band for so many decades, I'm surprised and saddened anyone would have an issue with my performance that night, but what can you do?
Twenty-nine years at any job is a good old run, and I wish them the best.
It's a little acrimonious to say the least.
