The ABBA hologram could be coming to NYC inside a newly built venue

"Developers are planning to bring ABBA Voyage, the high-tech concert experience built around holographic versions of the Swedish pop group, to Hell's Kitchen. The project is one step closer to reality and, if all goes as planned, the show will open in 2028 inside a purpose-built venue on 11th Avenue between West 45th and 46th Streets."

The real musicians, now in their 70s and 80s, spent weeks in motion-capture suits so animators could recreate their movements down to the smallest gesture. A team of about 140 visual-effects artists from Industrial Light & Magic helped build the digital performers."

Extell Development and the Bluestone Group are demolishing low-rise buildings in Hell's Kitchen to build a purpose-built venue for ABBA Voyage, a high-tech holographic concert experience. The 175,000-square-foot arena on 11th Avenue will accommodate approximately 3,000 fans per show, with an expected opening in 2028. ABBA Voyage features digital recreations of the band members from their late-1970s prime, created using motion-capture technology and developed by Industrial Light & Magic artists. The production runs 100 minutes with live musical accompaniment, immersive lighting, and visual effects. The London debut in 2022 proved highly successful, generating 3.5 million ticket sales and running seven shows weekly.
