Royal Academy of Music to open new east London studios
Briefly

The Royal Academy of Music is acquiring a new site on London City Island, offering 2,000 square metres of space, including four acoustically separated studios and ten teaching rooms equipped with grand pianos and recording facilities. This expansion focuses on improving the student experience, particularly benefiting opera and musical theatre students, without increasing overall intake. The Marylebone Road campus remains the primary base, while the new facility will alleviate space constraints and foster community collaboration, supporting individuals with special educational needs and disabilities.
This acquisition is a game-changer for the Royal Academy of Music and integral to our future as we take our already world-class facilities to a new level and to a new place with endless possibilities.
The purpose-built studios are expected to significantly enhance training opportunities for students across all departments, with particular benefits for those studying opera and musical theatre.
The expansion is intended to improve the student experience rather than increase intake numbers, ensuring a focus on quality rather than quantity in education.
The academy also plans to collaborate with community organisations in the surrounding area, including those supporting people with special educational needs and disabilities.
