The New Dawn Chorus, mostly composed of members in their 70s and 80s, is set to perform a concert in Upminster for Saint Francis Hospice. Sandra Belson, the choir's 78-year-old coordinator, emphasized their youthful mentality, referring to themselves as 'recycled teenagers.' The choir, which includes members up to 93 years old, has a rich history of performances, even selling out shows at Queen's Theatre Hornchurch. Music director Lorraine Ely mentioned that while they are not actively seeking new members, they have a waiting list due to reaching their capacity of 30 singers.
"We have two babies in our choir who are still in their 60s. The rest of us are in our 70s and 80s. We prefer being recycled teenagers."
"We go anywhere we're asked, often to care homes and community centres. The choir has reached its capacity at 30 members, with a waiting list to join."
