'I'm crying just remembering it!': readers on Black Sabbath and Ozzy Osbourne's goodbye gig
Briefly

Attending the final Black Sabbath show felt like a pilgrimage, rekindling childhood memories with favorite bands. The event featured a lineup of beloved artists, creating emotional moments, particularly during Steven Tyler's solo set. The physical toll of Parkinson's on performers highlighted their resilience and dedication to music. The day's experiences fostered a strong connection among fans, evoking pride in their roots as Brummies. Heavy metal was recognized for its role in providing an emotional outlet for outsiders, making it a vital part of personal and cultural identity.
The whole event felt as though it was lifted from my childhood iPod library, a whirlwind of bands I’d grown up listening to, blasting out their greatest hits.
Listening to Steven Tyler jam with Tom Morello, Travis Barker and Ronnie Wood was just madness. It was very emotional. I cried through his entire solo set.
The legacy Sabbath and Ozzy leave behind after retirement makes me fiercely proud to be a Brummie, and that day will always hold a special place in my heart.
Heavy metal doesn’t get enough credit for giving the misfits and misunderstood an outlet for their emotions.
