Grinderman was a necessary project for Nick Cave to explore a rawer sound after a decade of polished love songs. Following the departure of longtime guitarist Blixa Bargeld, Cave formed Grinderman with fellow Bad Seeds members. This side project resulted in two albums—Grinderman and Grinderman 2—along with a remix album, allowing Cave to delve into provocative themes without compromising his other work. The recent eco-friendly vinyl reissues allow fans renewed access to this energetic material, although they contain no new songs.
The two Grinderman albums, along with the remix record, have been out of print for some time, but were re-released on eco-conscious black vinyl on July 18.
Grinderman allowed Cave the freedom to write songs with titles such as 'Get It On,' 'No Pussy Blues,' and 'Worm Tamer' and explore dirty old man energy.
The first Grinderman record feels more like a warm-up, recorded in just four days, featuring two very strong singles and a handful of energetic tracks.
Billed as 'foul-mouthed, noisy, hairy, and damn well old enough to know better,' Grinderman spawned two albums with a remix album appearing in 2012.
