Exclusive | David Bowie's longtime producer recalls their haunting final conversation before singer's death: 'Last time I ever heard from him'
Briefly

In his final conversation before his death, David Bowie expressed excitement about becoming a grandfather and completing a new album. His longtime producer Tony Visconti recalls the rock legend's optimistic plans, despite facing terminal illness from liver cancer. Bowie died just days after releasing his last album, "Blackstar," and had not yet met his grandson. Visconti reflects on their deep personal and professional relationship, underscoring Bowie's legacy and the missed opportunities for collaboration that motivated him until the very end.
He said, 'I've got something to tell you.' And he was whispering to me on the phone... He goes into another room, and he says, 'I'm going to be a grandfather.'
He told me that he was going to make another album he started writing... 'Yeah, well, right after we get over the holidays, we'll get together, and I'll let you hear the music.'
It was a bittersweet ending to a longtime relationship that began between the Brooklyn-born Visconti and the British Bowie in the '60s.
To my knowledge, I was the first American he ever met because I was living in London then.
