Ekko Astral Postpone Album Release, Won't Play Liberation Weekend II
"Ekko Astral needs time to recalibrate. We wanted to move by our original schedule, but we've realized we would benefit from more time and bandwidth to give Beltway, our pride and joy, the moment it deserves."
"The announcement arrives after, late last month, Ekko Astral's label Topshelf Records dropped them and said it would not release The Beltway Is Burning; Holzman confirmed to Pitchfork on February 23 that the band would still put it out independently on April 22."
"Tyler detailed plans to leave the band in January, citing the strain touring with the group had on her mental health. At the time, Tyler said she would play one final show with Ekko Astral at Liberation Weekend II."
Ekko Astral, a Washington D.C. punk band, announced the postponement of their second album The Beltway Is Burning and cancelled all performances beyond March, including their co-founded Liberation Weekend festival. Bandmates Jael Holzman and Liam Hughes will complete their March touring schedule with Mclusky and Treefort Fest, but need additional time and resources for the album. The postponement follows Topshelf Records dropping the band in late February over a dispute involving former drummer Miri Tyler. Tyler left the band citing mental health strain from touring. Holzman subsequently filed a peace order against Tyler in February, alleging social media threats, which remains active until August. Tyler has denied the allegations.
