Big Thief has unveiled two new singles, "Los Angeles" and "Grandmother," ahead of their sixth studio album, Double Infinity, which is scheduled for release on September 5th via 4AD. "Grandmother" features ambient musician Laraaji, marking the first collaboration by all three band members. The six-minute song focuses on themes of generational love and pain. "Los Angeles" offers a poignant narrative about former lovers transitioning into friendship. The band recently released the single "All Night All Day" and had previously shared the lead single, "Incomprehensible." A 2025 tour will commence on September 17th following the album release.
Featuring ambient musician Laraaji on backing vocals and zither, the emotive "Grandmother" is the first Big Thief song written by all three band members together. The six-minute meditation looks at "generational love and pain."
Meanwhile, "Los Angeles" is a heart-wrenching lament chronicling past lovers finding their way to becoming friends, with Adrianne Lenker singing, "I'll follow you forever/ Even without looking/ You call, we come together."
