The winning design for the Queen Elizabeth II memorial in London has been revealed
"At the heart of our masterplan is a translucent bridge symbolic of Her Majesty as a unifying force, bringing together nations, countries, the Commonwealth, charities and the armed forces."
"Lord Foster described his design as 'very light touch', to reflect how the Queen was as a monarch. He said: 'The Queen encompassed, historically, periods of significant change, socially and technologically, but it was all very much with a light touch...'"
"The memorial is gentler, quieter, more contemplative, and an opportunity to rediscover, or perhaps reflect on, the legacy of the Queen."
The Queen Elizabeth II memorial will feature a translucent glass bridge and a silver statue of the Queen, aimed at providing a space for reflection. Celebrated architects Foster + Partners, along with various specialists, have been selected to design the memorial in St James' Park. The design, which will cost nearly £46 million, emphasizes a 'light touch' to resonate with the Queen's legacy. Features will also include a Prince Philip Gate and a gold sculpture, creating a contemplative public space honoring her unifying influence.
