The Piccadilly line will be almost completely shut on two weekends this summer
The Piccadilly line will undergo major upgrades during summer, including new walk-through trains with air conditioning, improved digital displays, better step-free access, and upgraded tracks and power systems. The work will require extensive line closures, affecting travel across the line. The most significant weekend disruptions are Saturday June 20 to Sunday June 21, when there will be no service between Cockfosters and Uxbridge, and Saturday August 1 to Sunday August 2, when there will be no service between Cockfosters and Heathrow. These closures remove the entire central London section from service, so journeys must be planned in advance. Additional partial closures and Night Tube shutdowns will also occur on several dates, especially impacting outer-end stations.
"TfL is currently in the middle of a massive programme of works to upgrade the trusty navy blue line, which accounts for more than 10 percent of all tube journeys. It's adding in brand new trains with walk-through carriages and air conditioning (much needed in the current sweltering weather), better digital displays, improved step-free access, as well as upgraded tracks and power systems."
"Of course, all this work comes at a cost for travellers, in the form of an extensive programme of line closures that'll leave you hunting for alternative ways to get where you need to be. The big weekends to watch out for are Saturday June 20-Sunday June 21, when there'll be no service from Cockfosters to Uxbridge, and Saturday August 1-Sunday August 2, when there'll be no service between Cockfosters and Heathrow."
"These closures mean that the entire central London section of the line will be out of action, so plan ahead to avoid missing your summery bottomless brunch or sweaty late night gig. These two weekends aren't the only disruption to watch out for. There'll also be quite a few other partial closures to be aware of, especially if you live at the outer ends of the Piccadilly line."
"These are the main dates on which you need to watch out for Piccadilly line closures this summer: Friday 5 (Night Tube)-Sunday June 7 Hammersmith to Heathrow and Uxbridge Friday June 12 (Night Tube) entire line closed Saturday June 13 (until 14:00) Hyde Park Corner to Acton Town Saturday June 20-Sunday June 21 Cockfosters to Uxbridge Friday June 26 (Night Tube) King's Cross St Pancras to Heathrow Saturday June 27-Sunday June 28 King's Cross St Pancras to Northfields and Uxbridge"
