'Pride and Prejudice,' Twenty Years On
Briefly

The director of the new adaptation of Pride and Prejudice deliberately chose to ignore the iconic 1995 BBC version to craft a unique perspective on the story. Influenced by British realist filmmakers like Alan Clark and Robert Altman, the director focused on creating a sense of reality within the Bennet household. The visual elements, such as color and lighting, were meticulously planned to reflect both the messiness and romance of the era, utilizing natural light for authenticity. The casting also contributed to the film's success, bringing a dynamic energy to the set.
I specifically chose to never look at the BBC version. I've still never seen it... we needed to do something different.
It was a messy world, but also a very romanticized one, particularly when it comes to Jane Austen, and I think you can see both sides in the way it's shot.
