Nipsey Hussle's legacy lives on with Marathon Burger, a new Melrose diner
Briefly

Marathon Burger, opened on March 1 on Melrose Avenue, pays homage to Nipsey Hussle, the late community activist and rapper. Owned by his family and new business partner Casey Parker, the diner features gourmet offerings like Wagyu burgers and organic hot wings. The eatery emphasizes community engagement and continues Hussle's branding ideals. It replaces the original Johnny Rockets, drawing in crowds not just for its food but for the legacy of Hussle. A large portrait of him inside acts as a reminder of his lasting impact in the area.
The Grammy Award-winning Hussle - legally named Ermias Asghedom - was gunned down in 2019 outside the Hyde Park clothing store that he and his brother built into a lifestyle brand together.
He was always talking about branding, like, 'We need a Marathon Water, we need a Marathon Burger,' said Hussle's older brother, Samiel "Blacc Sam" Asghedom.
Marathon Burger has quickly become a local favorite, attracting crowds drawn not only by its food but also the strong connection to Nipsey Hussle's legacy.
Inside, guests perch on roughly a dozen stools at a counter overlooking the open kitchen and grill, enjoying fresh takes on classic diner fare.
