Museum acquires Britain's largest Iron Age gold coin hoard
Briefly

The Museum of Chelmsford has acquired the Great Baddow Hoard, which is the largest known hoard of Iron Age gold coins discovered in Britain. This essential find consists of 933 coins dating from 60 to 20 B.C. The hoard was nearly lost before its existence was recognized but has now been preserved thanks to significant funding. Archaeological study indicates the hoard may reflect historical conflicts between the Trinovantes and Catuvellauni tribes, as it provides evidence of local coin production during a time of upheaval associated with Julius Caesar's invasions.
The Great Baddow Hoard, consisting of 933 Iron Age gold coins, provides significant archaeological evidence of regional conflict and currency production in ancient Britain.
Most of the coins in the Great Baddow Hoard are thought to have been produced in the region later associated with the so-called Catuvellauni.
