Collier Row Mosque has applied to Havering Council for an extension of its operating hours, currently limited to 12pm to 7:30pm weekdays and 12pm to 5:30pm on weekends. Originally built in 1999 with stricter hours, the mosque received previous approvals to extend its availability. The latest application aims to increase hours to 11am to 10pm daily, responding to community needs despite earlier council justifications for limiting hours to protect local residents' amenity. A decision on the application is expected by April 14, 2023.
Collier Row Mosque in Chase Cross Road has applied to Havering Council to vary a previous planning condition limiting its hours of operation, seeking to extend from 12pm to 10pm.
The mosque was built in 1999 when it was allowed to operate only between the hours of 6am to 3pm on Sundays and from 6pm to 9pm on Mondays.
Havering Council justified the conditions stating the limitations are "in the interest of the amenities of the local residents," showcasing their priority towards community concerns.
A decision on the bid is estimated to be made by April 14, indicating the timeline for when the mosque might know the outcome of its extension request.
