Man who killed gentle' 28-year-old with one punch in Tube station jailed
Briefly

Rakeem Miles, 23, was sentenced for manslaughter after fatally attacking 28-year-old Samuel Winter at a train station on August 22, 2024. After passing in the station, Miles confronted Winter, leading to a violent encounter where he punched Winter, causing a critical brain injury. Winter later died in the hospital on August 24. The British Transport Police launched an investigation, identifying Miles through Oyster card records. Detective Chief Inspector Paul Attwell expressed hope that the sentencing would offer some comfort to Winter's grieving family.
Miles reached out to Samuel, grabbing him from behind, ripping his top in two as he pulled Samuel to face him. He punched him once in the head and left him collapsed on the stairs.
The court heard how, on August 22, 2024, 28-year-old Samuel arrived at the station... Miles had also been travelling on the same train but had been in a different carriage and had not spoken to Samuel.
Though nothing can bring Samuel back, I hope today's sentencing allows his family some small measure of comfort as they continue to grieve for him.
Samuel's family described him as gentle.
