Transport for London (TfL) plans to increase the Congestion Charge in London from £15 to £18 starting January 2026. Alongside annual incremental increases, the new proposals include transitioning away from a 100% discount for electric vehicles (EVs) while offering a 25% discount for EV motorists and a 50% discount for electric van drivers. These changes aim to reduce vehicle congestion and support the move towards cleaner transportation. Public consultation is encouraged, as city officials and advocacy groups emphasize the importance of balancing traffic management with environmental sustainability.
Keeping London moving by reducing congestion is vital for our city and for our economy. The congestion charge has been a huge success since its introduction, but we must ensure it is fit for purpose.
We've record numbers of polluting diesel vans in the UK so I'm thrilled the Mayor is helping to reward businesses that invest in greener fleets.
