Bakerloo line extension to Lewisham could go even further into south east London
Briefly

Transport for London (TfL) intends to open a new section of the Bakerloo line by decade's end, connecting Elephant & Castle to Lewisham at a projected cost of up to £8 billion. This extension will introduce new stations at Burgess Park, Old Kent Road, New Cross Gate, and Lewisham, alongside additional platforms at Elephant & Castle. Plans to extend further south to Hayes in Bromley are also in discussion, which could see the replacement of Southeastern services. Mayor Sadiq Khan affirmed the potential for 20,400 new homes near the extension. Furthermore, TfL is seeking government funding to replace its aging Bakerloo train fleet.
TfL aims to open a new Bakerloo line section by 2030, costing up to £8 billion, extending service to Lewisham and potentially further south to Bromley.
The upcoming extension includes new stations and could support the construction of over 20,400 homes in Lewisham while planning for modernized trains is underway.
