Woman who fell to her death from Hackney council flat was trying to fix drainpipe'

The coroner's report indicated that Sarah McGreevy, 37, tragically fell while attempting to fix a blocked drainpipe, highlighting the dangers of inadequate property maintenance.

Coroner Sarah Bourke warned Hackney council of a risk of future fatalities if action was not taken regarding the building’s drainage system, which had seen no repairs.

Photographs of Ms. McGreevy's hands showed dirt consistent with cleaning tasks, leading to the conclusion that she was trying to clear a blocked drain.

The inquest revealed that residents on the fifth and sixth floors commonly climbed on wooden boxes to unblock drainage issues, raising concerns over safety protocols.
