Abbi Brown, a wheelchair user in east London, was trapped in her flat as a lift broke, and property managers refused to unlock a door for her to access another lift, causing her great difficulty.
Despite her constant calls, the property managers, Crabtree, cited reasons like the office being far away and an employee being sick, leaving Ms Brown to crawl up the stairs in pain.
Ms Brown highlighted the insensitivity and victim-blaming attitude of Crabtree, stating that the experience made her feel like the situation was her fault, emphasizing the challenges faced by wheelchair users in finding suitable accommodation in London.
London Fire Brigade confirmed that a fire door should remain locked, supporting Crabtree's decision, while Ms Brown expressed the feeling of being blamed for a situation beyond her control.
