Video shows firefighters still tackling smokey Erith industrial blaze a day later
Briefly

A huge fire broke out at a scrapyard warehouse in Erith on the evening of July 11, with flames visible more than 24 hours later. The fire began at 10:47 PM, affecting a single-storey warehouse, three diggers, and various vehicles. Approximately 150 firefighters and 25 fire engines were deployed, bringing the fire under control by 6:52 AM on July 12. However, some areas remained alight requiring ongoing efforts. Officials advised residents to keep windows closed due to smoke and chemical odors, with roads nearby closed for safety.
On Saturday evening, flames could still be seen at the site, with firefighters using tall ladders to spray water down onto difficult-to-access parts of the warehouse.
Around 150 firefighters and 25 fire engines were sent to tackle the blaze, with crews from Bexley, Erith, Plumstead, East Greenwich, Sidcup, and surrounding areas involved.
Assistant Commissioner Pat Goulbourne stated that while the fire is now under control, firefighters continue to tackle some areas of waste material that are still alight.
Twelve emergency calls were made about the blaze, and one of the Brigade's fire boats was used to pump 2,500 litres of water per minute from the Thames.
