Up in Smoke: Battersea's Lift109 viewing gallery rebranding as The Chimney Lift
"Battersea's viewing gallery that pops out of the top of the power station chimney is getting a bit of a rebrand, less than three years after it opened. It opened as Lift109, so-called because the top of the chimney is 109 metres above sea level. The Lift109 is a glass elevator that fits inside one of the four chimneys and whisks you to the top,"
"where it emerges and gives you about 10 minutes to see the sights before being sucked back down to the ground again. Having opened as Lift109, it's now being rebranded as The Chimney Lift, a name that is admittedly somewhat more obvious. It's an understandable change, as Lift109 could be anything from a coffee outlet to a clothing shop. Meanwhile, most people are probably asking for the Chimney Lift anyway, so it's best to change the name to match customer expectations."
Battersea Power Station's viewing gallery previously known as Lift109 is housed inside one of the site's four chimneys. The glass elevator rises to the chimney top at 109 metres above sea level and provides visitors about ten minutes to view the surrounding sights before descending. The attraction is being rebranded as The Chimney Lift to clarify its purpose and align with customer expectations, since Lift109 could suggest a retail name. The attraction is temporarily closed for sign replacement, a revamp of the interactive exhibition, and repackaging of branded souvenirs. The Chimney Lift will reopen on 1 November.
