Transport for London is cancelling the penalty charge notices issued to black cab drivers and apologised for the IT glitch that caused these wrongful charges.
Steve McNamara expressed concern over the potential escalation of penalties, noting that failure to respond quickly could lead to bailiff actions against drivers.
The Licensed Taxi Drivers' Association reported that many drivers, deterred by poor communication and inability to reach TfL, ended up paying fines they shouldn't have.
Despite being exempt from fees, the IT issue led to significant distress among drivers, prompting over 500 to seek assistance through a critical helpline.
