Protonitazene, a central nervous system depressant, more potent than heroin and fentanyl, is increasingly causing deaths in London, with three recent fatalities sparking concern among officials.
Graeme Irvine, senior coroner for east London, emphasized the alarming rise of protonitazene-related deaths, referring to it as a novel synthetic opioid that was previously unheard of but has now become prevalent in the last 18 months.
The victims, including Nerijus Kaleda found dead in a tent in Canning Town, had protonitazene in their systems, along with other substances like alcohol, cocaine, and morphine, signifying the dangerous consequences of its recreational use.
