The school football team that's still together after 50 years
Briefly

In 1975, a group known as the Old Quintinians embarked on a football tour to France, marking the beginning of lasting friendships. They initially faced defeat against a local team but later triumphed in a Grand Tournoi International, winning the final with a last-minute penalty. Over the years, they toured various European countries, creating cherished memories. As they reunited in 2025, they reminisced about the past while celebrating their journey from their comprehensive school days to their current status as pensioners. Their commemorative gathering highlighted the bond formed over decades of camaraderie through football.
The lads played as the Old Quintinians' for the former Quintin Kynaston Comprehensive, today's Harris Academy. Two photographs show them separated by 50 years.
They set out in 1975 from West Hampstead for their Continental venture in a minivan called Betsy, arriving in Tocan St Apre, where they initially lost to the local village team 2-1.
Undeterred, they went on to Riberac, where a Grand Tournoi International had been arranged with the local side and another from nearby Mensignac.
These were happy memories relived this week by a remarkably well-preserved bunch of pensioners kitted out in commemorative tops.
