The Instagram fraudster who made 17k selling bogus car insurance
Briefly

A social media fraudster conned motorists out of 17,618 by selling bogus insurance policies on Instagram. Wahidullah Usmani, 22, of Prayle Grove, Cricklewood, operated as a 'ghost broker.' He pleaded guilty to fraud, money laundering, and was sentenced to 24 months in prison.
Usmani manipulated customers' details to provide cheaper insurance quotes, receiving payments up to 250. The discovery of the suspicious policy by the LV= insurance company led to the investigation and eventual arrest of Usmani.
Payments totaling 17,618 were traced in Usmani's bank account, with confirmed links to fraudulent policies. The @cheap_car_insurance_quotes Instagram account used for the fraud has been removed.
Detective Sergeant Phil Corcoran highlighted the seriousness of the case, emphasizing the impact of ghost broking activities and the importance of collaboration between authorities and insurance companies.
