The force added that two people and one dog escaped the building before crews from Forest Hill, Lewisham, Beckenham, West Norwood and surrounding fire stations were deployed. Nearly 50 calls were received around 6.30pm after a blaze broke out at Finches Emporium near Forest Hill Station in Lewisham. Fifteen fire engines and about 100 firefighters spent three hours tackling the fire at the Perry Vale property, which included flats above and a rear workshop. One man was injured but did not need hospital treatment; two people and a dog escaped. A 32-metre turntable ladder was used to tackle flames from above and most residents were able to return home overnight. The cause is treated as accidental and believed to have started in a storage area. Forest Hill station closed temporarily due to smoke travel. Fire crews remain visible and will share fire safety advice.
