The Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Playground in Kensington Gardens will undergo a £3 million refurbishment, closing for six months from autumn 2025. Originally opened in 2000, the playground's central features have deteriorated and require significant updates. Plans include a rebuilt pirate galleon with three levels, ensuring accessibility for all children. The project is backed by The Royal Parks charity and focuses on sustainable materials. While the playground is closed, faithful parts will be retained, creating new structures and challenges for the next generation of visitors, with a reopening expected in spring 2026.
The existing playground, a haven for young children and families, will be carefully deconstructed to make way for improved facilities while emphasizing sustainable practices.
New designs for the Diana Memorial Playground include a rebuilt pirate galleon with three levels, designed for accessibility, retaining nostalgic elements like the mermaid water feature.
