The ambitious £2.5 billion London Resort, intended to rival Disneyland and cover 535 acres near Dartford, has been halted after the company behind it fell into insolvency. This decision follows a legal battle with Paramount and setbacks caused by the site's designation as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI). Critics highlight the inadequacies of the UK's planning system, pointing to the lack of planning consent even a decade after the project's concept. The cancellation is a disappointment for investors, especially Dr. Abdulla Al-Humaidi, who invested significantly in the vision of this immense theme park.
The dream of the London Resort has been ended by the courts. Natural England fatally wounded the scheme, a single creditor has killed it, and, with it, any chance of the UK competing on the envisaged scale of London Resort.
A decade on from when the project started it still does not have planning consent which is a terrible reflection on our sclerotic planning system.
The proposed park was envisioned to be three times larger than the biggest existing park in the UK, promising an entertainment experience akin to Disneyland.
After a bitter legal dispute with Paramount and setbacks regarding planning permissions, the vision for the 2.5bn London Resort has ultimately collapsed.
