The Greener Schools initiative permits London boroughs to apply for part of a 2m pot to help schools implement a range of energy efficiency interventions, including insulation and solar panels.
Headteacher Ben McMullen noted that the school’s newly installed heat pump could save the school about 6,000 to 7,000 per year, highlighting the financial benefits of the initiative.
Mayor Sadiq Khan emphasized the importance of the pilot to identify effective interventions for reducing carbon and saving on utility bills for schools.
Khan expressed hopes that the pilot's success would lead to a national rollout, stating, "These are examples of green policies saving money, which means rather than money being spent on paying utility bills they can be used on children."
