Emergency services were called to reports of a casualty on the tracks just before 8.50am today at Stevenage station in Hertfordshire.
A person was pronounced dead at the scene, the British Transport Police said. The incident is not thought to be suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.
National Rail says that trains between London and Cambridge or Peterborough will be severely disrupted until 3pm.
As a result, there will be fewer Thameslink trains in place until the end of the day.
