Mystery paint splodges appear on wall where Banksy's Ibex goat painting disappeared
"The Banksy original popped up beside Kew Bridge in August 2024, marking the first of nine animal paintings which surprised Londoners over the summer. It brought with it worldwide attention, which proved to be short lived when the artwork was removed after only a couple of months, and the building has been refurbished. The wall where the goat once lived was removed from the building, on the south side of the bridge at 110 Kew Green in February last year."
"The piece was removed by the Fine Art Restoration Company, which later displayed it as part of an exhibition in Chicago, entitled Banksy: Restored and Reclaimed, that showcased the work the company had done on conserving the street art over the course of 15 years. The ibex itself was created with a stencil, which was then sprayed with aerosol paint. The restoration company cleaned the surface, stabilised the render, and stated it would be kept in secure conditions until it is ready to be returned'."
A Banksy ibex mural appeared beside Kew Bridge in August 2024 as the first of nine animal paintings. The work attracted worldwide attention but was removed after only months and the building was refurbished. The wall bearing the mural on the south side of the bridge at 110 Kew Green was taken down during structural work and an added storey. Workmen said the removal was for refurbishment and safekeeping. The piece was removed by the Fine Art Restoration Company, conserved, displayed in a Chicago exhibition, and is reported to be held in secure conditions pending return. Locals noted unclear splotches on the emptied wall and questioned their meaning. The building houses Boss & Co.; the freehold is owned by Senesco Ltd. in Mauritius.
