In Muswell Hill, north London, around 2,000 properties have been without gas for a week due to a burst water main that flooded gas pipes. Residents are without hot water amid the winter months. Cadent has pumped out over 32,500 litres of water, reconnecting about a third of affected homes. The restoration process involves multiple phases for safety checks. Cadent anticipates full restoration may occur by the weekend, contingent on thorough engineering assessments. Barnet Council is actively checking on vulnerable residents as the situation unfolds.
You get your hopes up that the gas is coming back and then it doesn't," Tina Korhonen told the broadcaster.
We know how disruptive it can be to not have gas," said Vicky Grieve, Cadent's Network Director.
While Cadent is managing the process of resolving the situation within their network, we remain fully committed to assisting them and supporting the local community throughout the restoration process," said a spokesperson for Affinity Water.
Cadent said it hoped to have the remaining supply fully restored by the weekend, but cautioned that this was dependent on engineers being able to check homes for safety reasons before turning the gas back on.
