"There's a guy walking out the front of Chelsea and Westminster Hospital in full tactical gear and a gun on his hip and he's absolutely not a police officer."
"This was a highly unusual and extremely concerning incident which occurred at the worst possible time."
"They tackled him to the ground to secure the firearms without thought for their own personal safety, only that of tens of thousands of football fans in the immediate area."
"acted spontaneously and with incredible bravery"
Footage shows unarmed officers tackling a 16-year-old in tactical clothing who appeared to be carrying a handgun near Fulham Broadway as crowds left Stamford Bridge. A member of the public called 999 reporting a person in full tactical gear with a gun on his hip who was not a police officer. Officers secured what were later confirmed as imitation firearms that had been sprayed black to look realistic. The teenager said he was wearing a costume and was heading to a comic convention. The teen admitted possession of imitation firearms and was referred to the Youth Offending Team. Officers were praised for securing the scene amid significant public risk.
