"Fire crews mobilised shortly before 6.45pm to tackle the blaze in a bathroom in the accident and emergency (A&E) unit. A spokesperson for the NI Fire and Rescue Service said four pumping appliances and around 20 personnel were at the scene."
"In an update on Thursday morning, the PSNI confirmed the man since passed away in hospital. A PSNI spokesperson said: 'Police and fire crews were called to the Emergency Department of the Royal Victoria Hospital on Wednesday, 22nd April, at around 6.50pm.'"
"The Northern Ireland Ambulance Service has been transporting patients to alternative EDs, and will continue to do so until the incident has been resolved."
Fire crews responded to a blaze in the bathroom of the A&E unit at the Royal Victoria Hospital. Four pumping appliances and approximately 20 personnel were deployed. The incident occurred on April 22nd, around 6.50pm, and crews left the scene by 9.10pm. A man in his 30s was involved and later passed away in the hospital. The police confirmed the death is being treated as sudden and not suspicious. The Northern Ireland Ambulance Service transported patients to alternative emergency departments during the incident.
