Man arrested after Nando's worker hit with plate
Briefly

Nearly a year after a waitress named Zahra was assaulted at a Nando's restaurant in Stratford, East London, a 32-year-old man has been arrested. The incident occurred in March 2024 when Zahra tried to assist a customer with seating arrangements and was subsequently hit in the face with a plate. At the time, two Met Police officers present reportedly did not intervene effectively, leading to public criticism and an apology from the police regarding their handling of the case. CCTV footage of the incident has circulated on social media, sparking further outrage.
I was shocked. I couldn't register what happened, I couldn't process what had happened.
I was really disappointed and extremely upset by that.
A report of assault was made to police at the time of the incident, however, it appears this was not progressed promptly by officers.
We are working to establish why this happened and accept this is not the level of service Londoners should rightfully expect from the Met.
