Ayub Dirie, 32, faces allegations of verbally abusing comedian Matt Lucas with homophobic language while the latter was en route to a football match on 27 October.
The hearing took place at Highbury Corner Magistrates' Court where Mr Dirie confirmed only his name and address, facing charges that include racially aggravated harassment.
