The London Original Print Fair (LOPF) began in June 1985 with 16 print dealers showcasing their works at the Royal Academy of Art. Over the years, the fair has evolved significantly, facing challenges such as the crowded market for art fairs and changes in the exhibition landscape, particularly after COVID-19. Now held at Somerset House, LOPF highlights a shift from predominantly Old Master prints toward more contemporary works. The fair celebrates its 40th anniversary this year, demonstrating its resilience and adaptability over four decades.
In the 1980s, there were very few fairs at all. Now there are hundreds, and this year LOPF runs from 20-23 March at Somerset House.
Helen Rosslyn shares that back then, dealers mostly received packed lunches and champagne, showcasing the informal atmosphere of early print fairs.
