London Marathon organizers are exploring the possibility of staging the 2027 event over two days to allow more participants. A record 1.1 million people applied for the 2026 marathon, a 36% increase from the previous year. The 2025 event saw 56,640 finishers, with only about 5% of applicants able to participate.
