The team behind the 12ft puppet Little Amal have launched a new art project, The Herds, portraying migration due to climate change with life-size puppet animals on a 20,000km journey from Africa to the Arctic Circle.
The production company aims for The Herds to be 'invaded' by puppet animals fleeing climate disaster, growing in scale and variety with new species characteristic of each region, made from recycled materials including wood and cardboard.
The project's artistic director, Amir Nizar Zuabi, highlighted that The Herds presents a powerful artistic image to engage global audiences, aiming to induce a perspective shift towards the climate crisis.
Jayne Knowles, dean of performance arts at Wimbledon College of Arts, emphasized the university's role in raising awareness of the climate crisis through creative storytelling, performance, puppetry, design, and animatronics expertise.
