Protesters gathered in London against a proposed Chinese mega-embassy, voicing concerns that it could be used to control dissidents and suppress freedom. Over 1,000 people, including many Hong Kong refugees, expressed fears about potential illegal detentions. The site, previously denied planning permission, was resubmitted after political changes. Local leaders support the project despite past objections, with a hearing set to decide its fate. Protesters insist the embassy may threaten the safety and rights of dissidents living in the UK, highlighting the ongoing issues with the Chinese government's treatment of dissent.
We come from Hong Kong. We are afraid that China will use this place to look over us, against us. In Hong Kong, we have many experience of China, the CPP, controlling the freedom and democracy and against the Hong Kong people.
It's very possible that this building could be used for holding Chinese dissidents who are on British soil to be arrested in a non-legal way.
