Lambeth Bridge closure dates revealed as TfL safety upgrade begins
Briefly

The project at Lambeth Bridge involves replacing its existing unsignalised roundabouts with signal-controlled junctions to improve safety for cyclists and pedestrians. This change comes after data revealed a high incidence of cycle collisions at this site, with 22 out of 31 reported accidents involving cyclists. The infrastructure requires urgent maintenance, and amendments will also improve traffic flow. Notably, the planned construction will include nighttime closures starting January 30, with disruption expected until February 10, 2025, while also aiming to better manage the flow of traffic across the bridge.
The project involves replacing the unsignalised roundabouts at either end of Lambeth Bridge with signal-controlled junctions to enhance safety for cyclists and pedestrians.
Cyclists were involved in 22 of the 31 collisions across the bridge's two roundabouts, highlighting the urgent need for safety improvements in this area.
TfL commissioner Andy Lord stated, 'It's really important that we make these changes. We're removing the roundabout and putting in signal junctions' for improved safety.
The project not only aims to improve cyclist and pedestrian safety but also is intended to enhance overall traffic flow across Lambeth Bridge.
