Superintendent Luke Baldock stated, 'It has been a significant problem for some time. We have had one protest or central London issue morph into another.' This highlights the strain on local officers due to frequent assignments outside their own jurisdiction.
Baldock noted, 'The Commissioner [Sir Mark Rowley] has been really clear he wants to do something about this and make sure neighbourhood officers can spend more time in their communities,' emphasizing the need for localized policing.
He explained the recent changes, stating, 'I do think we're seeing changes that mean Bromley cops are staying in Bromley more though it is still an issue.' This reflects a gradual improvement in officer availability within the borough.
Addressing the staffing challenges, Superintendent Baldock remarked, 'Bromley seems to be somewhat sheltered from this issue,' indicating a relative stability in staff levels compared to the overall Metropolitan Police shortfall.
