
Anthony Eyton, a figurative painter from Brixton, turned 103 and is preparing for the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, the world’s oldest open submission exhibition. He has exhibited internationally, including at Tate Modern, Tate Britain, and the Imperial War Museum. He credits painting with satisfaction, saying he is happiest when putting paint on and that it keeps him in touch with life. His interest in art began at age six with a duck and worm drawing, and he painted hard from age 14. After serving in the army from 1942 to 1947, he continued painting people, places, and “things.” He embraces social media with his daughter, posting on Instagram and sharing his art and reading.
"Age has been no barrier to him embracing social media, and along with his daughter Sarah, a photographer, he regularly posts on Instagram. “He's very natural in front of the camera as he's just talking to me. I use my iPhone camera,” says Sarah. “He loves talking about art and about his paintings and about what books he's reading.”"
